So... Some number crunching members of my family of course just had to know how many miles exactly I did on the whole on the PCT this summer, and I was curious myself: How far did I hike? Did I hit the 1,000 mile mark?
Turns out I didn't. Even counting all the detours I hiked, I'm still 18.7 miles short: 981.3 miles total for Oregon and Washington! Still, not bad, I would say... :-)
In case you're interested, here are the details:

An account of my 2009 / 2012 hike on the Pacific Crest Trail
Seattle / The Dinsmores (September 6-8, 2012)
My inner tent zipper had been malfunctioning since before White Pass, and I needed to get some warmer clothes just in case the weather didn't hold up, so I went on a little detour to "the big city" (as the backcountry men at Government Meadows had called it)...
Washington Section B: Trout Lake to White Pass (August 20-23, 2012)
Cascade Locks (August 12-14, 2012)
I had not planned to stay this long in Cascade Locks, but I needed to get a replacement for my broken camera, had promised someone a long phone call, and - most important of all - I needed to get all my resupply packages packed and mailed out for the entire state of Washington! But mostly, Cascade Locks was just a really cool place to hang out with other hikers.
Starvation Creek Falls Shrek, a local trail angel, drove me and some other hikers to Hood River (where I got a new camera of dubious quality at WalMart). We stopped at this state park along the way. |
Oregon Section F: Timberline Lodge to Cascade Locks (August 9-11, 2012)
Oregon Section B: Ashland to Crater Lake (July 4-14, 2012)
Hooray Oregon!!! I was excited to start my hike. And on the very day I had planned to, no less - Independence Day... (Hey there, Henry David Thoreau! ;-) )
Franz, his girlfriend and Greg gave me a ride to the trailhead. I was very surprised to run into thru-hikers this far up north this early in the season. |
PCT 2012: Pre-hike preparations in Seattle (June 30 - July 3, 2012)
PCT 2009: California (April 22 - August 22, 2009)
After more than three years, I'm finally posting some pictures. Oh well. Better late than never, I guess...
